Rebels Respond with Triple in Win Column

After falling, to the Lady Wolves of Buford (9-1) the Fannin County High School Lady Rebels softball has bounced back with a triple in the win column, beating: North Hall (4-1); Dawson County (10-7); and West Hall (15-0). The win streak puts the Lady Rebels’ record at 14-10 on the year.After being bounced by Buford on the road, the Fannin faced another road game at North Hall. The two runs scored in the first by Ashley Rhodes and Amy Mintz was enough to win the game; however, the Lady Rebels added two more runs in the top of the third, securing the 4-1 road win.

Starting pitcher, Kaitlyn Dickey, threw all seven innings versus the Lady Trojans of North Hall, with four strike outs.

The Lady Tigers of Dawson County proved to be more formidable foes for Fannin. Again, Fannin found two Rebels’ runs in the first inning. Both Josie Milsaps and Rhodes scored on a single error to give the Lady Rebels a 2-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the inning.

Dawson, took the lead back in the bottom of the same inning, scoring three runs to take a one run lead into the second inning. The lead increased to three, 5-2, when the Lady Tigers added two runs in the bottom of the third.

The top of the fifth saw the visitors tie the game with a two out Lady Rebels’ rally. Following an error that put Rhodes on first, three straight standing doubles from, Mintz, Allie Barfield, and Mallory Deal respectively, tied the game at 5-5 going into the bottom of the fifth.

The top of the sixth saw the Lady Rebels take the lead for good, and featured the obvious play of the game. After a Milsaps single that loaded the bases, Rhodes hit an RBI single that put Fannin up 6-5 and left the bases loaded.

Following a fielder’s choice at home, Barfield hit a grand slam in the park home run that left the Lady Rebels firmly in the driver’s seat, with a 10-5 lead with an inning and a half left to play.

The Lady Tigers cut the lead to three in the bottom of the sixth, a three up three down bottom of the seventh saw the Lady Rebels leave with a 10-7 win.

Jace Armstrong started on the mound for Fannin, finishing with five innings pitched and six strikeouts. Dickey came on in relief to pitch the final two innings. She finished with one strike out, and retired all three batters in the bottom of the seventh. Barfield finished the game with five RBI.

The Lady Rebels thoroughly thrashed the Lady Spartans of West Hall at home, scoring 15 runs in three innings of work. Fannin found five runs in the first and never looked back. Two more runs in the bottom of the second, resulted in a “playground shutout” lead of 7-0.

After an eight run bottom of the third, the game was called due to mercy rule. Armstrong pitched all three innings, finishing with seven strike outs. She also led the game in RBI with three.
