County Buys New Truck, Prepares for Audit

The Fannin County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a new dump truck last week during its monthly meeting. The truck will replace the county’s current truck. According to County Clerk Rita Kirby, the old truck will be used as a trade-in. With the trade-in, the truck will cost the county $125,013. However, Kirby said the cost of the new vehicle has been budgeted and will come out of the SPLOST account. The truck will be used for paving and other similar uses. Although the purchase was expensive, Commissioner Earl Johnson said the investment would be worth the money and cheaper in the long run.

Also, Commission Chair Bill Simonds requested the board approve the engagement letter with R.L. Jennings to perform the county’s 2012 audit. In an email to FYN today, Kirby said the audit will began yesterday and will last 10 to 12 weeks. The audit will cost the county $50,000, Kirby said.
