Fannin Rebel’s Full Ride to Where Raiders Roam

Missy Dixon, second basewoman for the Fannin County High School Lady Rebels softball team, signed her letter of intent to play softball for the Northwest Florida State College Raiders. Dixon set a single season state record for triples with 14.Head softball coach, David Dyer, spoke briefly about Dixon, and so too did FCHS athletic director Dr. Scott Ramsey, at brief ceremony held at FCHS. Afterward both Dixon and Dyer spoke about her continuation of career at the collegiate level.

Dixon spoke about the intense work ethic and sacrifice necessary to reach this point in her career.

“There was a lot of I don’t want to do this anymore, and there was a lot of this is going to prevent me. This isn’t going to do anything this is just going to make me tired. I’m ready to go home.”

She also spoke about wanting to go to bigger schools, but ultimately making her decision based on her education.

“There was a lot of mom I want to go to the big D-I schools, mom I want to go to UGA; I want to play for Florida. It to me it all depends on what degree you major in and what you like to be interested in because truthfully there is no softball Olympics there is no NBA, none of that type stuff. It’s all go to school do good work, play hard, study hard, long hours at school, and you’ll be successful.”

Head Coach, David Dyer spoke about Dixon’s contributions to the program since transferring in as a junior.

“Missy came she transferred here two years ago. New kid, new environment and when you’re a junior in high school at that age sometimes kids aren’t willing to stick with things that are different for them, very different, very different atmosphere and environment for her. She came right in she made friends she cliqued with our team. She’s a tremendous athlete so the softball aspect wasn’t a problem.”

He also said,

“She just made a big impact here. The neat thing for me about this is academically she’s done very well here. Athletically she’s done well, and the whole goal is really, there’s not a pro girls’ softball league and really the highest that can obtain is making an Olympic team. I don’t know if we’re fortunate enough to have it (back), but down the road will know. The most important thing is for a student athlete to get that college degree.”

Dixon plans to attend Northwest Flordia State College for two years before transferring to FIU. Northwest is a junior college.
