New Beginnings

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. ( 2nd Corinthians 5:17).We are about to welcome in 2013. It’s a new year. It’s the time of year when we make “New Year’s Resolutions,” which usually last about 10 days or less. Well, that’s me. I don’t know about you.

All of us have some things we would like to change. We’d love to correct some things that just haven’t worked out like we had hoped. We’d love a do-over, a second chance, and new beginning.

It seems like all of us yearn for change in our lives. We are too heavy (“fat” before pc days). We want to spend more time with our families. We want to make more money or learn to save more money. We want a better career or do better at what we do. So, we pledge to do that at the New Year. There is nothing wrong with this. If we can keep to our commitments then these are good things.

Some of us wouldn’t mind just starting over from the beginning, literally being born again, in the physical sense. Well, actually, that is the only way we can have a real new beginning. Jesus told Nicodemus in John chapter three that one must be “born again.”

Now, obviously, we can’t go back in the womb. But, we can be born again. If we trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we will be born again. We will get a new beginning, a genuine spiritual do-over. All the mistakes, sins, and regrets of the past are covered. God said in the book of Exodus “I will see the blood and pass over you (in judgment).” We really do have a new life, a new purpose, and a new power to keep our resolutions.
