Ola Ledford : Obituary

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Ola Burrell Ledford, age 91 who passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 in Hiawassee.

Mrs. Ledford was born in Towns County on September 28, 1921 to the late McCellan & Carrie Beck Burrell. She and her husband, Cloe Ledford were married in the summer of 1935. They lived on a farm where they cut timber & acid wood, and managed laying hens. Ola was a dedicated and hard working woman all of her life. She was a loving mother who invested herself and talents to raising seven wonderful children. Ola planted gardens full of peppers, tomatoes, and beans. Canning was a family event. With a mind as sharp as a tack, she found humor in many things. She always enjoyed good, clean fun. Always loving and a bit feisty at times, but you would never have to wonder where she stood on anything. A member of Upper High Tower Baptist Church, Ola had a strong faith and love for her Lord. She really enjoyed old time gospel hymns and rarely would listen to anything else. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 48 years; daughter, Barbara Spivey; granddaughter, Carol Leigh Ledford; great grandson, Kyler Matheson; her parents; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: sons, Herman, Harold, Darold and Ricky Ledford; daughters, Oleta Canup and Vonita Matheson; 17 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren. Her legacy will certainly live forever.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 16, 2012 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee with Rev. Chris Matheson and Rev. Glenvelle Nicholson officiating. Special Music will be provided by the Philadelphia Quartet. Interment will follow at Laurel Hills Memory Gardens. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Terry Ledford, Dwayne Ledford, Roger Spivey, Junior Spivey, Hank Canup and Justin Ledford. Honorary escort will include: Blake Ledford, Anthony “Tub” Taylor, Mike Crisp, Bryant Taylor, Matt Simms and Herbert McCray.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, from 6 until 9 pm.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee.
