Harlan Underwood : Obituary

The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Harlan W. Underwood, age 65 of Young Harris who passed away Tuesday evening at Chatuge Regional Hospital.

Mr. Underwood was born on February 11, 1947 in Young Harris to the late Kyle & Irene Howell Underwood. Harlan was an active member at First Baptist Church of Blairsville where he joyfully served as deacon. He was well known throughout our community and was a familiar face at the Blairsville Post Office where he worked for over 40 years. He loved his family and enjoyed relaxing and spending time with them. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. He also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harlan will be fondly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: loving wife of 46 years, Roberta Totherow Underwood of Young Harris; Daughter & Son-in-Law, Marsha & Craig Davenport of Blairsville; Grandson, Ben Davenport of Blairsville; Brother & Sister-in-Law, Brian & Mildred Underwood of Young Harris; Nephews, Shaun & Shea Underwood and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 14, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Dr. Fred Lodge and Rev. Danny Parris officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 until the service begins. Musical Tribute will be provided by Minister of Music, R. Terry Hooper. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Bobby Lance, Art Jordan, Chris King, Ernie Harkins, Doug Gray and David Sosensky. Honorary escort to the family will be: Joe Roach, Jerry Hood, Richard Nichols, Justin Shook, Jason Smith, R.L Nichols, Terry Kirby, D.L. Martin, Travis Vaughn, Michael Henderson, Russell Cain, HomeBuilders Sunday School Class and the Deacons of First Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service at Union Memory Gardens with Military Honors presented by the United States Army and the North Georgia Honor Guard.
