Clara Mae Parker King, age 89 of Blairsville, passed away Thursday, July 19th at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Mrs. King was born in Murphy, North Carolina on July 31, 1922, the daughter of the late Perry and Grace Parker. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Troy H. King; her parents; daughter, Vivian C. Martin; brother & sister-in-law, Perry Parker, Jr.& Nina Ruth; brother, Robert “Bobby” Parker; sister & brother-in-law, Gladys & Don Deiters and brother-in-law, Charlie Davenport. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher in the early years and was a member of the choir. She and Troy married while he was serving in the CCC.

Mrs. King was an outstanding homemaker, an excellent seamstress and made many of the girls clothes. She was very creative and talented. She always kept her home looking lovely inside and out with beautiful flower gardens everywhere. An immaculate housekeeper and amazing cook, she was a wonderful wife and mother raising five children alongside her husband, Troy. She was very active in the community serving as a substitute teacher and a member of the local garden club. Mrs. King also assisted with midwife duties throughout the community. It was obvious to all that she loved the Lord and her fellow man serving them in many ways. Clara Mae was a perfect role model for her children. She was highly respected and loved by all.

She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: daughter & son-in-law, Betty & Ben Hale of Colliersville, TN; daughter & son-in-law, Kathryn & Wayne Banks of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Jackie & Joe Hunt of Rockmart, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Bill & Margaret King of Meansville, GA; sister, Martine Davenport of Marietta, GA; sister, Peggy Asherbranner of Jasper,GA; brother, Billy Joe Parker of Waleska, GA; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 14 great -great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends share in her legacy.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 21, 2012 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Brian Asherbranner officiating. Musical Tribute will be presented by Ben Hale and Jackie Smith. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jeff Ballard, Parker King, Bill Lamar King, Blake Griggs, Joe Luckie and Mickey Parker. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Hunt, Wayne Banks and Ben Hale.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the service begins.
