Clarence “Junior” Farmer Candidate for Post One Commissioner

Clarence “Junior” Farmer is a candidate for the Post 1 seat on the Fannin County Board of Commissioners in the Republican Primary of July 31, 2012.

“I will work for the people of Fannin County to the best of my ability, and be honest with everyone,”

Farmer said. He said attracting jobs and keeping taxes low are his number one goals.

“I did that when you, the people, elected me to serve on the Fannin County School Board in 2006,”

Farmer said.

He said while he was in that office, the school board lowered taxes. “We, as a board, won the Destiny School Board (award) in 2009.” While on the school board, Farmer assisted in planning, approving, and managing the school systems budgets; helped set district policies; assisted in developing the district-wide vision – The Fannin County School System will be recognized as a world class school system that holds a vision of excellence for all students with successful progression at each level and a 100% graduation rate.” He assisted in developing the district-wide mission – Developing Young Futures… Learning for Tomorrow, Today.

Farmer also participated in the district-wide Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accrediting process, supported the extension of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and helped secure the Board of Distinction status for the Fannin County School Board of Education.

As Post 1 Commissioner, Farmer promises to work with the Chairman and Post 2 Commissioner to budget the money for the county’s roads, bridges, and water so that Fannin County will have adequate infrastructure for further growth. If elected, Farmer also pledges to support all public safety entities within the county to help provide top quality law enforcement, fire, and EMS services.

Farmer has been a participant in the social activities of the Blue Ridge Bowling Association since 1978. He served as President of the Monday Night Bowling League for 34 years and President of the Men’s Bowling Association for five years. He has served as a Board Member of the Fannin County Empty Stocking Fund for three years.

Farmer’s employment for 33 years was with Ingles Super Market, Johnny’s Food City, and Save-A-Lot grocery store until his retirement. He was the produce manager for all three stores.

Clarence Farmer was married to the former Mildred Williams for 52 years prior to her death. He has three daughters and son-in-laws, Sherry and C.J. Green of Blue Ridge, Lisa and Edgar Parks of Ellijay, and Trina and Chris Davitt. He also has two granddaughters, Amy Green Mason and her husband Chad Mason of Blue Ridge, and Haley Parks of Ellijay. He has on great granddaughter, Kennedy C. Mason.

Farmer attends Youngs Chapel Baptist Church where he has held many offices. He is currently Choir Director and Church Clerk. Farmer was born and reared in Fannin County and has owned property since 1957. He has the best interest of Fannin County at heart and is a candidate for this office because of his desire to help keep Fannin County strong and prosperous.
