Esmer Ruth Long, age 91 of Morganton, passed away June 9, 2012 at her home. Esmer was born March 27, 1921 in Gilmer County, GA to the late Louis Clifford Ralston and Millie M. Long Ralston. A member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by husband, Eugene Floyd Long and son, Larry Long. She loved listening to Gospel music, sewing and canning her vegetables.
Survivors include: sons, David (Doris) Long, Edwin (Janice) Long, Daniel (Wanda) Long, and Ernest (Patricia) Long; daughters, Charlotte Anderson, Ramona (Pete) Jones, Loretta (Roger) Owensby, and Sharon Long; sisters, Lois Deems, Ester Hefner, and Shirley Ellis. Also 25 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Reverends Sanford Fountain and Bobby Baker officiating. Music provided by David Anderson and the church choir. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include Scott Long, Michael Long, James Jones, Gary Long, Billy Long and Phillip Owensby. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Long and all the grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, June 11, 2012 from 5-9 pm.
