On Tuesday, March 6th, the City of Blue Ridge opened bids for the work on the Train Depot. Gay Construction gave a price of $202,850 for the work, Rock Solid Construction $185,882.36, Pinson Construction $168,584, Better Homes Bureau $148,786.12, and Johnson Landscape Inc. $144,923.31.

As part of the Streetscape beautification project, the city plans to renovate the downtown depot. In early February, the city council decided to move the Train Depot to near-by 662 East Main Street in preparation for the project, now in its third phase.

According to Mayor Donna Whitener the renovations include electrical work, structural repair, bathroom installation, and plumbing and painting. Whitener said the project will be paid for through a transportation grant. During the February meeting, the mayor also highlighted the time constraints linked to the project, explaining that the Train Depot starts selling tickets March 12th.

The city could accept bids as early as this month.
