Will Pearson Run?

Featured Stories, Politics

Will Chip Pearson enter the race for the Ninth District Congressional Seat? In November, the former State Senator told FYN that he would make a decision about the Ninth District Race in January, because he wanted to spend time with his family for the holidays.

Should he decide to enter, Pearson faces an already dynamic race, where, in the larger picture, he would seemingly be behind his opponents. Potentially, Pearson faces Rep Doug Collins (R-Gainesville), Conservative Radio Talk Show Host Martha Zoller, Jackson County Commissioner Hunter Bicknell, and, the most recent addition, former Greater Hall County Chamber of Commerce President Clifton McDuffie. At this point in the race all the candidates have a sound head-start, with the exception of McDuffie, conceivably making Pearson’s candidacy arduous.

Those who know Pearson, though, may not find his hesitancy surprising, recalling that in 2010, Pearson announced that he would not run again, shortly before the qualification deadline. Can we see the opposite decision with the same timing?

In an email to FYN today, Pearson explained that he has not made a decision yet and is not sure of a time frame to announce his decision on entering the Ninth District Race. FYN will follow Pearson’s progress on his candidacy. .
