Mr. James Samuel Hood, age 77 of McCaysville, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011, at his home. He was born January 21, 1934 in Gilmer County, GA to the late Samuel Hood and the late Della Starks Hood. He was a member of Epworth First Baptist Church and he was a US Army Veteran serving in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam, and retired as a Master Sergeant. He enjoyed cleaning up, selling and trading cars and visiting with friends.

James was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Hood, mother, Della Starks Hood, and second mother, Mamie Lowe Hood.

Survivors include: wife, Marlene Hood of the home; daughter & son in law, Sandra Hood (Joe) Williams of McCaysville, GA; son, James M. (Sherry) Hood; son, Gregory A. Hood; sisters, Martha Sue Sanford and, Sammie Ann McAuthur; granddaughters, Tara Williams (Greg) Garland and Dawn Hood, grandsons, Jacob O. “Jake” (Martha) Williams, Shawn (Lisa) Hood, and Josh (Christina) Hood; great grandsons: Nick Hood, Jacob Williams, and Will Hood; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: Monday, November 28, 2011 at 7:00PM at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home chapel with the Dr. Tom Jordan and Rev. Russell Hood officiating. Music provided by Doug Simonds. Serving as Honorary pallbearers: Shawn Hood, Nick Hood, Jake Williams, Josh Hood, Greg Garland, Kenny Finley, Rusty Whittenbarger, Larry Joe Sosebee, Tommy Williams, Fred Brandhuber, Kenneth Patterson, Craig O’Neal, James (Bone) Godfrey, Ronnie Kimsey and Jerry Hampton. Interment will follow Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 10:30 AM in the Canton National Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the US Army.

The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Monday, November 28, 2011 4:00 till 7PM.
