Board of Education Recognizes Candice Sisson

“She had a vision and saw how it could help us.”

On November 10th, at its monthly meeting, the Board of Education presented Nutrition Director Candice Sisson with certificates of recognition. The certificates were not from the board, though, but from United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Georgia Educational Cooperative (GEC). The GEC is an organization, where school systems are pooled together. This structure allows school systems in the group to have more buying power and to dilute the costs of various regulations.

Last Thursday, on behalf of the USDA and GEC, Superintendent Mark Henson presented Ms. Sisson with the 18th Annual Best Practices Award for the National School Lunch Program. Sisson championed pursuing membership in the GEC, acknowledging all the advantages it could offer Fannin County’s School System. “She had a vision,” Superintendent Mark Henson said, “and saw how it could help us.” Henson then ceremoniously presented Sisson with the certificates. “I would like to say that I appreciate the approval to join the group (GEC),” Sisson said, “we thought we’d save money on purchased food. We were able to bring in consultants in different areas and because we were dividing the costs between 15 systems, we could afford to do that; if we were working alone we really couldn’t afford to bring in experts.”

The board congratulated Sisson in receiving the award and on all of her hard work with the food program.
