Collis Cool in All State Game

Alexis Collis was selected to play in the 2011 Georgia Dugout Club All State Fastpitch Game which took place in Columbus, Georgia November 11-12, 2011. 64 players from across the state were chosen from a record number of nominations.The process began in August when coaches began submitting nominations from their teams for the All State roster. Coaches from the regions watched those players throughout the season; then a committee met to discuss the roster. Players were chosen and put on teams from a combination of two regions: regions 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 (see attached rosters). Rosters are comprised of senior players from all-classification A-AAAAA.

From region 8AA, Alexis Collis (Fannin County), Angie Hughes (Union County), and Madison Franklin (Banks County) were chosen to compete on a team with players from Collins Hill, Oconee County, Allatoona, Madison County, Brookwood, North Gwinnett, John’s Creek, and Mill Creek (see attached roster). Coaches from Regions 7/8 were Billy Dooley (North Oconee), Bryan Eades (Oconee County), Paul Pierce (Collins Hill), and Jessica Stewart (Union County).

Teams reported to the Quality Inn in Columbus Friday afternoon, were assigned rooms, and bussed over to the stadium where they were given a banquet before participating in various competitions. Each team selected players based on their strengths to participate in competitive events in infield, outfield, speed, and homeruns. Region 7/8 proved stout with their players winning all the afternoon competitions.

Caitlyn Glenn (Oconee County) who is committed to Brenau, won the infield competition. Alexis Collis (Fannin County) who is committed to Kennesaw State University, won the outfield competition. Sam LaZear (Madison County) who is committed to the University of Georgia, won the speed competition. Nikki Sagerman (Mill Creek) who is committed to the University of Kentucky, won the homerun competition.

Saturday’s events began with games between the regions separated by a team parade on the stadium field in which all participants were recognized. Team 7/8 dominated the competition winning all 3 games.

Collis had a great offensive showing at the all-star game facing off against pitchers Jessica Bouroughs (Houston County) who signed with Florida State University, Ashley Clifton (North Gate) who signed with Georgia Tech, and Morgan Sikes (Chapel Hill) who is currently uncommitted. Collis finished the weekend with a .666 batting average and an on base percentage of .750. Defensively, Collis played flawlessly in the outfield and at first base committing no errors.

It was a great experience finishing her high school career in Columbus at the stadium after winning the All State Championship with so many talented players from across the state.
