Mr. Thomas (Hugh) Panter, age 81 of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011 at his home. He was born in Fannin County on January 10, 1930 to the late William Richard and Willie Marie Thomas Panter. Mr. Panter was retired from Lance Trucking as a truck driver. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Panter of the home; son, Tommy Panter of Cherry Log, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Dan Haymore and Becky and Jeff Allen both of Blue Ridge, GA; brothers, Randall Panter of Wadsworth, OH and Ralph Panter of Morganton, GA; sisters, Evelyn Payne of Morganton, GA, Marie Chancey of Tunnel Hill, GA and Minnie Watson of Blairsville, GA; three grandchildren, D.J. Haymore, Jake Allen and Ashley Lee; three great grandchildren, Caleb Lee, Riley Lee and Malachi Lee; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 29, at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. James Worley and Rev. Harold Willis officiating. Music will be by Imogene Stewart and Brian Huffman. Pallbearers will be Dan Haymore, Jeff Allen, Jake Allen, D.J. Haymore, Brandon Lee and Bobby Panter. Military honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Copper Ridge Memory Gardens. Donations in memory of Mr. Panter may be made to The Gideons International, Blue Ridge Gideon Camp, P.O. Box 1375, Blue Ridge, GA 30513.
