The first annual faculty mixed doubles tournament was held at Fannin High School. Coach Bubba Gibbs and his doubles partner, Jamie Richert won the 16 team tournament with an 8-4 victory over the team of Mr. Culpepper and Ashley Minter. The student halves of teams were made of Fannin tennis players. Richter and Minter were the #1 and #2 single players, respectively for the Rebels.The rest of the faculty that participated consisted of: principal Cioffi; coach Chambers (AD); Mr. Marshall; Ms. Underwood; Mr. Kent Thomas; Coach Shively; Ms. Nelligan; Coach Bryrie; Coach Clonts; Mr. Mills; and Mrs. Heather Collis.
Richter and Gibbs faced Shively and Hanna Davenport, winning 8-2. Minter and Culpepper faced Evans and Lindsey Wright in the other semifinal, winning 8-6.
Culpepper had a previous engagement, and was scheduled to leave at 5:30pm; however, “his competitive fire kept him playing into the finals,” according to head tennis coach, Robert Evans. Evans also wanted to offer “a big thank you to the parents and family members who helped with the food and BBQ preparations which everyone enjoyed.” The coach also acknowledged that there is already excitement building for the tournament next year.
