The Atlanta Gas Light Company (AGL) is set to reroute its pipeline from Ellijay to Blue Ridge. In August, the Georgia Public Service Commission (GPSC) approved AGL’s pipeline project. Initially, the plan was to run the natural gas line north along Highway 515, from Ellijay to Blue Ridge. At the time, Media Relations Manager Tami Gerke said that the 515 route was the proposed route, but was not finalized. In a recent correspondence with FYN, Gerke said that AGL has

“decided on a Boardtown Road route and not Blue Ridge Parkway,”

adding that the company is still surveying locations and has yet to finalize the entire route from Ellijay to Blue Ridge.

According to an AGL spokesperson, when complete the pipeline is expected to lower natural gas costs, reducing rates and providing more customers with easier accessibility to natural gas. The company also asserts the project will boost economic development in the area, offering alternates to propane to commercial and residential developers.

The project is expected to begin this year.
