Plane crash in Sugar Creek area of Blue Ridge

Fannin County, GA –    Fannin County Sheriff’s office, Fannin County Fire Department Engine 1, Rescue 1 and Med 1 responded earlier today to a report of a plane crash.  This morning, March 5th, at approximately 11:15 am a call came in to Fannin County Dispatch reporting a small, single engine plance crashed off of Bonanza Drive in Blue Ridge, GA.  Dispatch relayed the plane was suspended around 30 feet in a tree.

According to authorities there is one unidentified fatality.  Multiple responding teams are on the scene and ask the public to please avoid the area for safety precautions at this time.  The FAA will conduct an investigation into the crash and are enroute to the scene at this time.  The plane was possibly attempting to make a landing at the air strip in the area.

Update:

The plane, a Piper PA-22-150 Tri-Pacer, was nearing the Blue Ridge Skyport Airport when it crashed into a tree.

The crash killed the only occupant on board the plane, the pilot of the aircraft.

The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the crash to determine what could have caused the incident.

a spokesperson said the official investigation could take 12 to 24 month to complete.
