The Fannin High School Rebels and Lady Rebels basketball teams were in action on Friday, taking on region opponent Dawson County. The Ladies remain perfect at home with a 58-45 win while the boys’ 4th quarter push wasn’t enough causing them to go down 41-32.The first quarter of the girls game was the Hope Cochran show. Cochran scored 10 of the ladies’ first 20 points.

Cochran had some great first quarter help from Courtney Satterfield, literally, as Satterfield had a huge assist to Cochran. She drew the entire defense to the right to find Cochran all alone in the paint, for the easy two. She also hit a big three to give the Lady Rebels a 7 point 13-20 first quarter lead.

Dawson started the 2nd quarter in the Bonus, as Fannin fouling early. Molly Chandler took over in the second period for the ladies. Chandler ended with only six first half points but pick up numerous rebounds, setting second chance points for her fellow Fannin Lady Rebels.

Lindsey Humphrey hit a big three for Fannin on a in bounds play, but the quick Dawson team made a come back, pulling within four late in the quarter.

After a McKensey Ryder last second bucket, the Lady Rebels went to the locker room with a 27-33 lead.

Fannin showed the crowd that the Rebel ladies had been working on fast break points, as they opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run, with points by Cochran, Humphrey, and Kayla Chancey.

This blast of offense continued throughout the second half for the ladies. Fannin control the clock when time came about too; going three minutes without letting Dawson have the ball late in the 4th.

Fannin sealed the deal with a 43-55 win, remaining perfect at home.

The guys’ game got off to a slow start, but with a late drive the Rebels made it quite an interesting game.

Austin Williams and Sam Kaye tried to get a productive start for the guys; however, they weren’t having any success. Will Holloway’s shots would go in and out the whole night, making it tough on the team for the first half.

Kaye did an excellent job holding Dawson’s two post players to minimal points. At the hal,f the score was 15-5 with Dawson in the lead.

Williams and Holloway came out of the half looking to get the Rebels into the game. Fannin went on a 9-4 run to start the third making the score 19-14.

With some momentum gaining Fannin went into a four guard look, bringing Christian Stepp off the bench.

At the end of three, the Rebels trailed 27-16. Kai Russell stepped up with six fourth quarter points, four of which came from the foul line.

Holloway followed suite added six points as well. The Fannin offensive burst, came too little too late, as Dawson went on to win by a score of 41-32.

Fannin will look for a win, as the Rebels are set to face West Hall later in the week.
