Junkyard Dogs Take No Junk in HR Derby

The Fannin County Lady Rebels’ softball team hosted a fundraiser home run derby event. There were two contests, a team, and an individual. The Junkyard Dogs won the team prize and the $200.00 grand prize by finished with a combined total of 17 home runs. The team members were: Chad Pittman (2), Junior Whaley (7), Scotty Welch (3), Danny Marshall (5), and assistant softball coach Alan Collis. Whaley won the individual competition as well. ‘Team Smack That’ raised the most money, $124.00.While Team Powerhouse did not win, it did not limp through the tournament “Like Bernie,” from “Weekend at Bernie’s.” coming in second with 16 home runs. The team fThe team members were: Jon Hatcher (4), Josh Tinsley (3), Troy Burmbalow (5), and Michael Gravitt (4).
Three different teams finished tied for third place with 14 home runs a piece. The Homerun Honeys members were: Colby Bowers (5), Ryan Bowers (2), Andrew (3)”Peddles” Hyatt, and Daniel Roper (4). Flex’s members were: Nikki Sagerman (7), Reba Williams (0), Alexis Collis (2), and Sierra Lawrence (5). Team Smack That’s members were: Casey Crawford (1), Charlie Crawford (4), Nick McClure (2), and Joe Chancey (10).
The Roofers finished with 13. The team members were: Brian Smith (4); Jodie Barfield (3); Randy Patterson (4) and Mike Mull (2).
The Dirt Divas finished with 10. The team members were: Jordan Farmer (5), Garrison Sisson (0), Tyler McClure (2), and Ryan Nix (3).
The Underdogs finished with six. The team members were: Danny Caldwell (0), Devan Morris (2), Jared Nichols (1), Seth McClure (3).
The Krackers couldn’t crack more than two. The team members were: Todd Patterson (0), Kolton Galloway (0), Brady Stanley (2), Korey Satterfield (0).
The unrelenting sweltering heat, so valiantly battled by the concession stand, with the offering of reasonably priced refreshments, continued throughout the night. The combatants did not let the heat faze them, even as the stars provided light for the mosquitoes to dine under.
The solo derby had to be decided in triple overtime despite the fact that the prize was “bragging rights.” The aforementioned Junior Whaley, Jordan Farmer, and Cline Bowers, each finished tied with four, in what became the first round. Bower, was eliminated in the second round when both Farmer and Whaley tied with three, on five connects. Farmer was two for five in the next, and final, round. Whaley won when he hit four of his first four pitches.
The other solo derby competitors were: Alexis Collis (3), Nick McClure (0), Nikki Sagerman (3), Charlie Crawford (3), Jodie Barfield (3), and Sierra Lawrence (3).
