Rep. Johnny Chastain Appointed to House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth

ATLANTA – State Representative Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge) was appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as a member of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth.

“I am grateful to Speaker Burns for establishing and appointing me to serve on this important study committee to evaluate growing concerns over the effects that online platforms, such as social media, have on young Georgians,” said Rep. Chastain. “As this type of web-based content becomes more and more pervasive, it is important that we understand the risks and consider policy solutions that keep pace with rapidly evolving technology and online content. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to find meaningful legislative solutions to protect Georgia’s youth.”

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on the Impact of Online Platforms on Georgia Youth will evaluate the effects of online platforms on minors to strengthen safety protections, address mental health concerns and promote age-appropriate access to online content.

Speaker Burns also appointed the following study committee members: Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones (R-Milton), State Representatives Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth), Beth Camp (R-Concord), Brad Thomas (R-Holly Springs), Anne Allen Westbrook (D-Savannah), Lydia Glaize (D-Fairburn), Debra Bazemore (D-South Fulton), Tangie Herring (D-Macon) and Shawn Conroy, Consumer Protection Division, Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
