FANNIN COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities in Georgia are continuing an intensive search for Charles Hosch, an experienced hiker who was reported missing after going hiking on Blood Mountain on Tuesday. Multiple agencies, including K-9 units and aviation teams, have been searching the area for several days.
According to family representatives, Hosch is familiar with the local terrain and frequently hikes in the region. The sheriff’s office is coordinating the search effort, and at this time is requesting only significantly experienced hikers who are already on the trail to assist. Officials emphasized that they are not seeking additional volunteer searchers due to safety concerns and the rugged terrain.
However, the public can still assist in other ways. Authorities are specifically asking for help from anyone who was in the following areas on November 11 or later:
- Appalachian Trail near Blood Mountain
- Mountain Crossings store
- Byron Herbert Reece Trailhead parking area
Individuals who were in these locations and may have taken photographs are asked to contact the Emergency Operations Center at (706) 439-6091.
The family is also asking the public to share information on social media so it reaches hikers who may have been in the area, and they expressed gratitude for continued prayers and support.
