McCAYSVILLE, Ga. — Captain Brantley Worley of the McCaysville Police Department, who was critically injured in a shooting last week, is being released from Erlanger Hospital this afternoon, according to a department statement.

Worley, who was shot in the face while responding to a call, will remain nearby with his wife overnight before undergoing reconstructive surgery on his nose tomorrow. The department described his recovery as “nothing short of a miracle,” crediting community support and medical care for his progress.

“Our community, our state, and even our Governor have lifted us up through prayers, donations, and acts of kindness,” the department said. “To Sheriff Dane Kirby and the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, thank you for stepping up in our greatest time of need. To every law enforcement agency across this community and in surrounding states, your support and assistance made it possible to apprehend the subject responsible.”

The suspect, whose name has not been released in this update, is scheduled to appear before a judge today at 1 p.m. in Fannin County Magistrate Court.

Officials also extended gratitude to EMS teams, dispatchers, and hospital staff for their roles in responding to the incident and aiding Worley’s recovery.

“This tragedy has become a testimony of healing,” the department said, adding that it remains deeply thankful for the support from across Georgia and beyond.
