(Blue Ridge, Ga) – The Fannin County Rebels picked up a program-defining win on Tuesday night, as they knocked off North Murray in Region 7AA action. The Mountaineers came into the game a perfect 8-0 on the year and ranked third in AA the State of Georgia.

Coming into the game as major underdogs, the Rebels jumped out to an early 13-7 first-quarter lead and didn’t look back, as they took a 26-22 lead into the locker room.

Coming out of the break, the Rebels exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Mountaineers 14-9. It looked like the Rebels had the game well in hand as we headed to the final frame, but North Murray charged back. The Mountaineers went on an 11-2 run to open up the fourth quarter, cutting the Rebels lead to just one as they trailed 44-43 with 5:06 to go in the game.

With just 1:20 to go in the game, North Murray’s Isaiah Morrison tied the game up with a bucket underneath. North Murray would have a chance to win the game in regulation as they had the final possession, but great defense from Jordan Richerson forced the ‘Neers to take a contested shot and we were on our way to Overtime in Blue Ridge.

Jordan Richerson put the first points on the board in OT, draining his third 3-pointer of the evening and giving the Rebels a 53-50 lead.

A few possessions later, a couple of North Murray foul shots tied the game at 54 a piece, and with just 13 seconds left in OT, the Rebels had the ball and called a quick timeout to talk things over.

Head coach Bryan Richerson drew up a beautiful play coming out of the timeout and Ben Bloch nailed a floater in the lane as time expired, giving the Rebels a 56-54 overtime victory over the third ranked team in the state.

Sophomore guard Jordan Richerson led all scorers, going 8-9 from the floor on his way to 21 total points. Senior Ben Bloch was the hero of the evening, hitting the game-winner and scoring 12 points on 5-8 shooting. Bloch also led the team in rebounds with 9.

Fannin County moves to 4-3 on the season and will be back in action on Friday, hosting Union County in non-region action.
