Rebels Hunt Down The Bobcats 38-14

Fannin County defeated Rival Gilmer in front of a big crowd last Friday night on their home turf. The Rebels have won 5 of their last 6 against Gilmer, not including the 2020 and 2021 games that were not played due to Gilmer cancellations.

1st Quarter

Fannin County had a statement drive to start the game. Lawson Sullivan found paydirt to give the Rebels a 7-0 lead to open things up, and on the next drive, the Rebel Defense forced Gilmer to go 3 and out. Elijah Weaver made a crucial stop on the edge for the Rebels.  The Punter for Gilmer fielded a low snap and punted the ball away, however, before he punted the ball his knee was down at the 1-yard line. Fannin would take over on the Gilmer 1-yard line, leading to Carson Callihan’s 1st Touchdown of the year. Matthew Ponton would nail the extra point giving the Rebels the lead 14-0 early in 1st.

2nd Quarter

Gilmer would get on the board to make it 14-7, and then their defense forced the Rebels to punt. Gilmer had a nice drive going until Cooper Born made a big defensive play forcing a fumble. Fannin would convert on 4th down twice on the drive that set up an 18-yard run by Callihan as Fannin took a 21-7 lead. Gilmer would fumble the next kickoff and Baylor Twiggs recovered it for the Rebels. On the following drive for Fannin, Sullivan found Cole Stevenson on 4th down and set up a 33-yard field Goal by Matthew Ponton. Fannin took a 24-7 Halftime Lead over Gilmer

3rd Quarter

Gilmer would score on their 1st drive of the 2nd half cutting the Rebels Lead 24-14. Fannin would then have to punt back to Gilmer. On Gilmer’s next possession, Case Holloway would make a huge 3rd down stop in the backfield that forced Gilmer to Punt. Callihan would find the endzone again for Fannin making it 31-14. Next drive for Gilmer,  young Sophomore Jacob Green,  would record his 1st sack of the season. The Fannin County Light Show would then send us to the 4th Quarter.
