Fannin Co. Basketball, Team FYN Sports, TeamFYNSports December 13, 2020
Last night, the Union County Panthers traveled to Fannin County to take on the Lady Rebels for a non-conference game. Although it was not a region matchup, both teams gave it their all.
Reagan York was the one to get things started for Fannin County as she wasted no time driving the lane for a layup to give the Rebels an early lead. York was aggressive all night long as she added 12 points to Fannin’s score for the night. Fannin had good looks inside as they found posts Olivia Sisson and Paige Foresman on the block who each added two points on the board for Fannin. The Lady Rebels continued to extend their lead as they closed out the first quarter with a score of 20-8.
The Lady Panthers picked up the intensity and started to make a comeback to start the second quarter. Union scored most of their points by driving to the basket and scoring layups. They played in a zone defense and made it difficult for Fannin to make their way to the goal. The Panthers were able to get the ball back and make a jump shot to tie the game 20-20. Natalie Thomas quickly responded as she made a three-point shot to give Fannin a 23-22 lead to go into halftime and added eight points to the Rebel’s score for the night.
Both teams played hard as they fought for the lead. Union was able to gain it back only for Becca Ledford to make both of her free throws and tie up the game 30-30. Ledford had grit all night as she drove to the basket and contributed 13 points to Fannin’s score overall. When the Lady Panthers made a shot on the block for a 32-30 lead, Courtney Davis quickly responded with a three-point shot to give Fannin a one-point lead. The Freshman led the Lady Rebels in scoring for the night with 19 points overall. Fannin continued to extend their lead and was able to end the third quarter with a score of 42-35.
Mackenzie Johnson made her mark for the night as she scored a layup to add to Fannin’s score. Priscila Bautista was scrappy on defense as she hustled all night and kept the Panthers from scoring points. While they came close, Union was unable to catch back up to Fannin, resulting in the Rebel’s 58-47 victory.
Fannin’s win puts their overall record at 6-2 while their region record remains at 1-1. Catch the Lady Rebel’s next game on Thursday night as they take on Rabun County at 5pm!
