Earl Juan Chambers: Obituary

Earl is survived by his son, Mike (Denise) Chambers of Morganton; brother, Winston (Peggy) Chambers of Blairsville; sister, Retha Overstreet of Blairsville; grandson, Michael E. (Adrian) Chambers of Mineral Bluff; granddaughter, Jodie (Michael) Bennett of Blairsville; three great-grandchildren, Lily Bennett, Maci Bennett, and Bronson Chambers. Also special friend and companion of 15 years, Jo Millholland. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

After retiring from the military, Earl worked for the city of Callaway near Panama City, Florida. He later moved to Fannin County where he worked a short time for the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office. He was then employed by the Fannin County School System as a bus driver, where he also retired. He spent most of the rest of his life traveling to various states, hosting campgrounds for the Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service.

Earl was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, and camping with friends and family. He also dedicated many years of his life serving as a Boy Scout leader and was a member of the the Blue Lodge Masons. Earl was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 2:00 PM from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Gravitt officiating. Music will be provided by Christina Rush. Interment will follow in the Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery with Michael Chambers, Jr., David Davis, Ryan McDaris, Michael Bennett, Paul Robinson, and Steve Chambers serving as pallbearers. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of New Canaan Baptist Church. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
