Fannin Co. Lady Rebels defeat Raiders in Dalton

Saturday, the Lady Rebels (16-8, 6-5 Region 7-AAA) traveled to Southeast Whitfield to take on the Lady Raiders. Fannin had just come from a win the night before and was able to continue the streak with a 57-27 victory against the Lady Raiders.

Fannin came out ready to play as they made their way to the goal by driving to the basket. Becca Ledford led Fannin in scoring for the night with 15 points overall. Morgan Holt followed the sophomores lead as she was able to drive through the defense and contribute 10 points of her own. The Lady Rebels were able to get the early lead to end the first quarter with a score of 23-9.

Fannin continued to run away with their lead to start the second quarter. While the Raiders earned most of their points from free throws, Fannin earned theirs from making 3 point shots. Natalie Thomas was on fire with her outside shooting as she added nine points to Fannin’s score, six of them being from 3 point shots. Jenna Young followed the trend as she made a 3 pointer of her own. Each team was able to score eight points to end the quarter and put the score at 31-17 to go into halftime with the Rebels still in the lead.

The Lady Rebels began to look inside to their posts for more points while the Raiders had trouble making their way to the basket. Saidee Collins showed off her moves on the block as she added seven points from the block for Fannin. Page Forsman followed the trend as she added a basket of her own to put on the board for the Rebels to take a 48-23 lead against the Raiders to end the third quarter.

Although they were ahead, Fannin continued to play a great defense. They also remained aggressive on offense as they drew fouls and added onto their score. Reagan York showed off her hustle as she made her way through the defense as she added 10 points to Fannin’s score, four being from made free throws. Mackenzie Johnson followed the trend as she was able to make a foul shot of her own and put the final score at 57-27 for Fannin to take the victory. 

Fannin’s victory puts their overall record at 16-8 while their region record stays at 6-5. Catch the Lady Rebels next game this Friday as they take on Greater Atlanta Christian at 7pm for senior night!
