Trojans defeat Rebels

For their second region matchup of the season, the North Hall Lady Trojans (15-6, 6-2 Region 7-AAA) traveled to Fannin County High School last night to take on the Lady Rebels (13-7, 4-4 Region 7-AAA). While the Rebels started off the game strong, they were unable to keep up with the Trojans which resulted in a 64-47 North Hall victory. 

Fannin started off the game with great intensity as they quickly responded to North Hall’s early lead. When the Trojans would make a basket to extend their lead, Fannin would put points on the board to barely trail behind them. Becca Ledford showed off her ball handling skills as she drove right through the defense to make a layup and put Fannin behind one point with a score of 10-9. Ledford was the one to lead Fannin in scoring for the night with 13 points overall. After a made layup for the Trojan’s to take the lead once again, Abby Ledford made a 3 point shot for Fannin to tie the game 12-12! Ledford was able to add eight points to the Rebel’s score for the night with her great outside shooting. After North Hall responded and made a few 3 point shots of their own, they closed out the first quarter with a 17-14 lead. 

Fannin managed to keep hanging in there to start off the second quarter as they battled to get their lead back Olivia Sisson made her presence known on the block as she made a basket to put Fannin behind by just one point with a score of 17-16. Sisson had a great night down low as she earned six points for Fannin. Saidee Collins continued the trend as she was aggressive on the block and added five points to the Rebel’s score. Despite the posts great efforts to put more points on the board, North Hall’s 3 point game came alive and they were able to run away with their lead. To go into halftime, the Lady Trojans took a 34-24 lead against the Lady Rebels. 

The Trojans kept up their intensity in the second half of the game as they came out and pressed the Rebels. Despite their heavy defensive pressure, Morgan Holt was able to speed right past the defense and add 10 points on the board for Fannin while six of her points came from 3 point shots. Natalie Thomas took advantage of any slack the Trojans showed on defense as she took open outside shots to earn four points of her own. Although Fannin outscored North Hall in the third quarter, the Trojans managed to keep their lead and go into the fourth with a score of 46-39. 

Fannin began to get tired to start the fourth quarter of the game. When North Hall saw this, they took advantage and continued to drive to the basket for more points. While many of the Rebels began to give up hope on the game, Mackenzie Johnson still hustled after the ball on defense and made the Trojan’s work hard until the buzzer sounded on North Halls 64-47 victory. 

The Lady Rebels loss puts their overall record at 13-7 and their region record at 4-4. Catch Fannin’s next game on Thursday as they travel to Lumpkin County to take on the Lady Indians at 6pm!
