Fannin Co. Rebels fall to Spartans in Norcross

Tuesday night, the Fannin County Rebels (5-10, 0-5 Region 7-AAA) traveled to Greater Atlanta Christian (GAC) to take on the Spartans (10-5, 4-1 Region 7-AAA). Fannin had just come from a loss to Gilmer County and was ready to redeem themselves with a win.

It was a close game from the beginning as both teams kept putting points on the board. Miles Johnson was the one to lead Fannin in scoring for the night with 11 points. While the Rebels scored most of their points from the block, GAC scored the majority of theirs from made free throws to put them ahead 11-8 to end the first quarter.

The second quarter started off the same as it was fast paced yet low scoring. The Rebels continued to look under the goal to the posts where they found Brady Martin and Jalen Ingram. Ingram showed off his moves as he added nine points to the Rebel’s score while Martin was right behind the junior with four of his own points. The Spartan’s began to make their outside shots and went into halftime with a close 22-18 lead over Fannin.

The intensity from both teams was still alive to start the second half. Neither team was giving up and it showed from their performance on the court. Cohutta Hyde got after it as he rushed up the court to add four points to Fannin’s score. Andre Bivens also showed off his hustle as he added two of his own points to the board. With both teams scoring only seven points in the quarter, GAC had a 29-25 lead over Fannin to go into the final quarter.

Fannin’s defense had been solid throughout the whole game and continued to be great into the fourth quarter. Landon Norton and Jordan Bennett had grit on defense as they began to get into foul trouble. Before fouling out, the sophomores showed off their outside shooting game as Norton added seven points to Fannin’s score while Bennett earned three. Despite the Rebel’s fight to the end, the Spartan’s walked away with a 46-40 victory.

The Rebel’s loss puts their overall record at 5-11 and their overall record at 0-6. Catch Fannin’s next game this Friday as they take on Dawson County at home starting at 8:30pm!
