Rebels battle Trojans
Fannin County High, Team FYN Sports December 7, 2019
Last night, the Fannin Rebels traveled to North Hall to take on the Trojans for their second region game of the season. Fannin had just come from a tough loss to Dawson County the game before and hoped to redeem themselves with a win against North Hall.
Kaeden Twiggs was the first to put the ball into action as he drove for a layup just to have North Hall bank a 3 point shot and take the lead were they continued to extend it for the rest of the game. Twiggs got after it as he contributed 6 points to Fannin’s score for the night. Miles Johnson played hard down on the block where he made a basket and drew a foul to make both of his free throws. Cohutta Hyde led Fannin in scoring for the night with 11 points overall and closed out the first quarter with an outside shot to put the score at 11-8 with North Hall in the lead.
Both teams played hard and fast as they rushed up the court to score points. Brady Martin had a great game as he got after it on the block and earned 5 points for the Rebels. Jerritt Holloway had hustle as he made his way right through the defense and scored a layup to add to Fannin’s score. There were loose balls all over the place as both teams kept getting their hands on it in efforts to make a steal. As time on the clock ran out, North Hall went into halftime with a 23-15 lead over the Rebels.
The second half of the game is when the Trojans began to run away with their lead. They were able to find their way around the Rebel’s defense and made their way to the basket. While Fannin’s go to method of scoring was looking inside to posts or driving to the basket for layups, sadly they didn’t have much luck in their free throw game for the night which proved to be their downfall. However, Fannin did play good defense where they earned many steals for the night. Only down by 8 points, the Trojans extended their lead 32-24 over Fannin to end the third quarter.
Due to his grit on defense, Jalen Ingram fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Landon Norton was the second to foul out, but not before adding a basket to Fannin’s score. Although they were behind, Fannin still fought as they made and drew fouls in an attempt to stay in the game. Unfortunately, their efforts proved not be enough as North Hall walked away with a 44-32 victory.
Fannin’s loss puts their overall record at 3-4 while their region record stands at 0-2. Catch the Rebels next game today as they take on Union County at home, starting at 3:30pm!
