School Board Members Honored March 18-22, 2019

The Fannin County School System is joining in a statewide celebration to salute the efforts of local school board members. The week of March 18-22 has been proclaimed “School Board Appreciation Week” in Georgia. The week-long observance calls attention to the contributions of local boards of education.

Citizens elect board members to represent the community on education matters and to set the vision for the school district. Board members are constitutional officers, and each takes an oath to uphold his or her duties, which include setting the vision and policies that provide the framework for the operation of the school system. The members represent – as a board – the entire community.

Fannin County School System Superintendent Dr. Michael Gwatney said, “Our Board’s five members – Chair Lewis DeWeese, Vice-Chair Chad Galloway, Bobby Bearden, Terry Bramlett, and Mike Cole – are both neighbors and community leaders who spend countless hours fulfilling their responsibilities and working together to improve our school system. They are truly advocates for our community’s most precious asset – our children. I express sincere appreciation and thanks for each member’s commitment, and I encourage others to do so, too.”
