Rebels Fall to Spartans

For their sixth region game of the season, Fannin took on Greater Atlanta Christian this past Tuesday on the Rebel’s home court. The Spartans looked to continue their undefeated region win streak while Fannin hoped to earn their first region win of the season.

GAC started with the ball and wasted no time to add a three point shot to their score. Rebel senior, Dahla Myers, had no hesitation to tie the game and add a three point shot to Fannin’s score. Along with his three, Myers added one more point on the board with a foul shot. Chandler Kendall and Jalen Ingram led Fannin in scoring for the night with six points each. The teams were neck and neck as GAC ended the first quarter with a 12-8 lead.

The Spartans stepped up their game as they began the second quarter. GAC started to put more points on the board as they passed the ball around well and created open shots. While the Spartans took outside shots, Fannin looked inside for points downlow. Nathaniel Garrison was the go to guy on the block who added five points to Fannin’s score. Joel Kinser was right behind Garrison as he added four points on the board for the Rebels. The Spartans extended their lead to a score of 43-17 as they went into halftime.

There was steal after steal on the Spartans part as they put pressure on the Rebels. They would take the steal and drive it back for a goal. Sophomores, Kaeden Twiggs and Cohutta Hyde, got aggressive with the ball and drove through the heavy defense where they each earned two points. Twiggs earned his points from free throws while Hyde drove the lane for a layup. The Spartans found themselves more than thirty points ahead of Fannin at the end of the third quarter with a score of 72-25, making the fourth quarter only six minutes long.

Fannin continued to put points on the board while GAC did the same. Despite their intensity at the beginning of the game, the Spartans ended it with an 82-29 victory over Fannin. The Rebels loss put their overall record at 3-14 and their region record at 0-6.
