Fannin Fights in Region Game

On 12/04, the 4-1 Dawson County Tigers traveled to Fannin County to take on the 2-4 Rebels for their first region game of the season.

Rebel senior, Chandler Kendall, had just recovered from an injury that kept him out of the sport for the first six games until this night when he was finally able to return and start in the game. Kendall played a great defensive game until he got into trouble and fouled out with a technical in the fourth quarter.

While Dawson had no trouble putting points on the board, it was a low scoring game for Fannin. While the Tigers made ten of their three point shots, the Rebels only made one for the night. Dahla Myers was the only one to make a three point shot for Fannin where he followed it with a jump shot inside the key, resulting in his five points to lead the Rebels in scoring for the night. Joel Kinser was solid on the block for Fannin where he was right behind Myers by adding four more points to their score. Dawson finished the first quarter with a 19-4 lead over Fannin.

The Tigers put up a heavy defense where they double teamed the Rebels and ended up fouling. Brady Martin was one-hundred percent on his free throws for the night where he made his two of two. Chase Culpepper drew a foul by driving the lane for a basket and contributed three points to Fannin’s score with a made foul shot. Gavin Myers continued the trend as he added one point to the board for the Rebels. As Fannin made foul shots, Dawson continued to look up the court for wide open layups and claimed a 47-10 lead going into halftime.

Despite the Tiger’s lead, Fannin kept trying to push through their defense to score more baskets. Sophomore, Kaeden Twiggs, showed off his ball handling skills as he drove the lane and was able to put two points on the board for the Rebels. Andre Bivens followed the trend and sped passed the heavy defense where he also added two points to Fannin’s score. Two more points were added onto Fannin’s score from the block by Jalen Ingram. The Tigers kept extending their lead over the Rebels and ended the third quarter with a score of 63-14.

As Fannin slowly added points to their score, Dawson showed no mercy. The Tigers kept applying a heavy defense and played with the intensity they started the game with. The clock wound down with Dawson ahead of Fannin 70-21. The Rebel’s loss put their overall record at 2-5 and started their region record at 0-1.
