Rev. Phillip Lee Weeks, age 61, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at his home. He was born on April 6, 1957 in Blue Ridge. He served as a pastor for 33 years, where he ministered at many churches in the area and participated with the Morganton and Mountaintown Association. He was the current pastor at Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he currently called home. Phillip took over Weeks Grocery and grew the store into a well known tire and mechanic shop that he ran until 2000. He is remembered for helping everyone. His passion was children and Christmas and also loved animals and riding his motorcycle. He inspired so many people in this community and made everyone comfortable. He was a very non-traditional pastor. He believed in God, forgiveness, and living a happy life. He will be remembered for his words of encouragement, “Get Happy.” He is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Vernon Weeks.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lynn Rhodes Weeks of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Keela Weeks Leger and husband, Les of Woodstock; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremiah Weeks and wife, Jamie of Blue Ridge; mother, Minnie Weeks Thomas of Blue Ridge; grandchildren, Cale Weeks, Lincoln Leger, and Harper Weeks; and siblings, Rev. Harold and Loretta Weeks of Blue Ridge, Linda and Quinton Helton of Mineral Bluff, and Lamar and Gail Weeks of Jefferson.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Claude Mathis and Rev. Harold Weeks will officiate. Music will be provided by the Dillinger Family. Interment will follow in the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Billy Hyde, John Stephens, Chad McClure, Chris Beavers, Stephen Cruse, Michael Chambers, and Benny Long. Honorary pallbearers will be: W.C. Collins, Lynn Cole, Dale Cochran, Randy Clough, and Ernie Sellers. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Phillip to The Fannin County Empty Stocking Program, P.O.
