Walter Michael George “Mike” Coleman, age 67, of Murphy, NC, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018. Mike was born in Ducktown, TN to the late Deyo and Mildred Bandy Coleman. He previously was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for over thirty years along with serving as treasurer. Later, he was a founding member and deacon of the New Ground Baptist Church. Mike loved spending time with his family and especially loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed time at the pool and watching NASCAR constantly cheering for the Ford Motorsports. Two sisters also preceded him death, Diane Stiles and Sandra Newman.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Gina Prince Coleman of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Tim Gilley of Ducktown, TN; grandchildren, Cody Towe of Chattanooga, TN, Taylor Towe of Blue Ridge, GA and Madison Herr of Ducktown, TN; great grandchild, Bristal Towe of Blue Ridge, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tyke Prince officiating. A eulogy will be provided by Cody Towe. Music will be by Champ Prince and Gloria Gilley. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Ted Teesateskie, Steve Campbell, Kacey Coffey, Tim Gilley, Champ Prince and Cody Towe. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions in honor of Mike may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org/tribute.
