Lady Rebels Defeat Indians 42-41

The Fannin County Lady Rebels traveled to Lumpkin County last Thursday to take on the Lady Indians. Both teams were coming from losses their games prior to the matchup and looking for a win.

The Lady Rebels started off with the ball from tip-off. Lady Rebel, Morgan Holt, is just recovering from an injury that has kept her out the whole season but is coming back strong by leading her team in scoring with nineteen points. Lady Indian, Clara White, led Lumpkin in scoring with sixteen points. The Indians had the lead over the Rebels at the end of the first quarter with a score of 11-2.

With Lumpkin trapping the Rebels down in the corner, Fannin had better luck looking inside for shots. Lady Rebel, Hope Franklin, put twelve points on the board for her team with her grit downlow. Another Lady Rebel post, Makenzie McClure, followed the trend by contributing two more points to Fannin’s score with her aggressive playing. Fannin had a weak off-side defense which allowed Lumpkin to sneak in and do most of their damage. The Indians had a 20-15 lead over the Rebels at the end of the second quarter.

The intensity started to pick up at the beginning of the third quarter. Lady Rebel, Maleah Stepp, added four points to Fannin’s score with her scrappy playing. Fannin started to pass the ball around and find holes in the defense, resulting in more points. Maddie Johnson put two more points on the board for the Lady Rebels with her speed. Savada Collins followed the trend by contributing three points for Fannin with her hustle. The Rebels were almost caught up to the Indians at the end of the third quarter with a score of 27-26.

Fannin kept fighting until the end of the game. Neither team could keep a consistent lead. It was an intense quarter of back and forth when the clock finally ran out, and the Lady Rebels were ahead 42-41.

The Lady Rebels win puts their overall record at 9-11 while the Lady Indians stand at 8-11. Catch the Lady Rebels next game on January 30 starting at 6:00 as they travel to take on GAC!
