Lady Vikings Raid Rebels

The East Hall Lady Vikings traveled to Fannin County High School this past Tuesday to take on the Lady Rebels. Both teams were coming from wins prior to the match up and ready to continue their streaks.

Right from tip-off you could tell that it was going to be a close game. With the Rebels relying on passes inside to get the majority of their points, Hope Franklin led Fannin in scoring with seventeen points. Lady Viking, Carly Winters, led her team in scoring with twenty-one points. The score was tied as the clock was winding down at the end of the first quarter until the Lady Vikings made a three point shot, putting the score at 17-14.

With East Hall not expecting the Rebels to play like they did, the Vikings started to fight back. The Lady Vikings started to hold the Rebels back with their full court press. The Rebels started to look up the court to break the press and found Mackenzie Johnson who contributed two points for her team. Lady Rebel, Savada Collins, had hustle the whole time she was on the court and put seven points on the board for Fannin. Going into halftime, the Vikings had a 27-21 lead over the Rebels.

After halftime, the Lady Rebels were ready to take their lead back. Fannin kept looking inside and found Bailey Whitener who contributed four points for the Rebels. Lady Rebel, Makenzie McClure, had rebounds down low that resulted in her putting six points on the board for the Rebels. With the Rebels scoring more points, so did the Vikings. East Hall saw that Fannin had a weak offside defense and took advantage of the opportunity by scoring more points. Maddie Johnson added four more points to the Rebels score by driving the lane. Lady Rebel, Maleah Stepp, also scored four points for her team with her hustle. The Lady Rebels had caught back up to the Vikings at the end of the third, putting the score 37-36.

It was anyone’s game at the start of the fourth quarter. Neither team could keep a consistent lead. The Rebels were only down by five points as the end of the quarter started to near when they began to foul. As the Lady Rebels kept fouling, the Vikings score increased. The Lady Rebels were unable to catch up to the Vikings at the end of the fourth quarter, putting East Hall with a 57-44 victory.

The Lady Rebels loss puts their overall record at 8-9 while the Lady Vikings stand at 9-8. Catch the Lady Rebels next game January 12 at 7:00 as they travel to take on the Union County Panthers!
