Paws In The Park 2017

BLUE RIDGE, GA – Blue Ridge has long been known as a dog friendly town. Any time of the year you can see watering stations for our furry friends outside the shops of Main Street.

Once a year, however, our four legged family members completely take over downtown, and Blue Ridge’s commitment to our area rescues is showcased in Paws in the Park.

Humane Society of Blue Ridge (HSBR) hosted this annual event on Saturday, October 21, 2017. It was the 11th year for this event, and according to Paws in the Park Coordinator Robbie Muschamp, “It was the best Paws in the Park ever!”

This year’s festivities brought in record numbers. Muschamp explains, “This was our largest festival in 11 years, in attendance, number of sponsors and vendors, and the most animals in our pet parade.”

The parade, being one of the highlights of the day, had between 250-300 participants, and it wasn’t just limited to the dogs. Marching in this year’s parade were a number of alpacas, horses, and one family’s beloved mini horse.

Paws in the Park was created to bring all rescue groups together to create awareness about homeless and abandoned animals in our area.

Throughout the day area rescue organizations were able to speak with the public. They shared information on what their organization does as well as general information about the homeless pet population in our area.

Local area rescues brought along animals that are currently in their programs and looking for permanent homes. Many of the animals present that day found their new owners and were officially adopted.

Area veterinarians were present as well. Ocoee Animal Hospital was there to offer rabies shots and Microchipping, and Mountain Emergency Animal Center was present to let visitors and locals alike know about their emergency services and care.

Visitors were also able to see what Blue Ridge has to offer in the area of pampering your pups. Grooming and boarding facilities gave patrons a look into their areas of expertise, and offered on the spot services such as nail trimming.

Muschamp reflected on the events of the day, “It was truly a magical day with beautiful weather, awesome parade, costume contest, and best of all…lots of adoptions!”

With Paws in the Park growing each year, there is no doubt that Blue Ridge will continue to hold its title as one of North Georgia’s Most Pet Friendly Towns.
