Dakota Andrew McCoy, age 26 of Morganton, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017. He was born on October 28, 1990 in Blue Ridge. Dakota worked for NCI iron and steel building. He was of the Baptist Faith. Dakota was preceded in death by his daughter, Kenzlee-Rae Elizabeth McCoy and grandfathers, Howard Franklin Auberry and J.D. Shields.
Survivors include his grandmother, Bertie Shields; children, Koda Jackson McCoy and his mother, Kimberly O’Brien and Piper Aubree McCoy and her mother Erica East; mother, Shonda Auberry; father and step-mother, Jimmy and Mary McCoy; paternal grandmother, Mildred McCoy; brothers, Josh and Justin Bordelon; step-sisters, Kristen and Miranda Cole; aunt and uncle, Sharon and Don Owens; and niece, Kinsley Cole.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, September 4, 2017 at 4:00 pm from the Chapel of Akins Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Pope and Rev. Max Curtis officiating. Honarary pallbearers were Wendell Escobar, Zack Carver, Logan Wilson, Shane Wilson, Seth Owens, Justin Bordelon, James Wilson, Nathan Anderson and Doug Hyde. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to help defray final expenses. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
