Earl P. Craig “Coconut,” age 96 of Copperhill, passed away at his home on August 29, 2017. Mr. Craig was born March 8, 1921 in McCaysville, GA. He graduated from Copperhill High School in 1940. He served in the United States Army during WWII as a Master Sergeant. Mr. Craig worked for the Tennessee Copper Company and Cities Service as a machinist and planner until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was an avid golfer and supporter of the West Fannin Yellow Jackets and Georgia Bulldogs. Mr. Craig was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Geneva Craig; parents, Arlie Thurman Craig and Martha Magnolia Craig; daughter, Doretta Craig Torbett; brother, Garnet Craig; sisters, Nellie Craig Welch and Tressie Craig Ensley.

He is survived by his daughter, Loretta (Carlton) Guthrie of Dalton, GA; two granddaughters, Carla (Jeff) Bradwell of Marietta, GA and Alison (Alex) Marchuk of Wellington, FL; six great grandchildren, Davis, Gray, Lucy, Abby, Aidan, and Ashton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home in McCaysville, GA on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. Burial will be at Crestlawn Cemetery in McCaysville, GA. Deacons of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Military Honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville, GA, Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm. The family heartfully thanks all the caregivers that provided excellent love and care for Earl the past few years. The family requests that Memorial Donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416 or the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill P.O. Box 867, McCaysville, GA 30555.
