Jacqueline (Jackie) Carlton Cliett Burch, a beloved mother, grandmother, and educator, died the 12th of June, 2017 at Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, GA. She was a resident of Blue Ridge, GA.

Born on November 29, 1941 in Wauchula, Florida, Jackie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Florida Southern College. She continued her studies to further receive her Master’s Degree from Stetson University.

During her 35 year teaching career, she taught on year at Winter Haven Middle School and 34 years at Fort Meade High School in Florida. She taught U.S. History, American Government, and A.P. American Government. Jackie was the sponsor of many school activities over the years including National Honor Society, Yearbook, Academic Team, Student Council, and the School Newspaper. She also started the Fort Meade High School Adapting Communities for Excellence (ACE) Program, in which their goal was to give back to the community. Jackie was also a National Leadership Conference Presenter for both the PRIDE Program through Herff Jones and Leadership Experience and Development (LEAD) program. She was a member of the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS) Accreditation Teams.

Jackie served as a volunteer leader for 4-H, Saddle Clubs, and various horse association in Florida. She also served as District Advisor of Student Councils in Polk County, Florida. She was a member of the National FFA Alumni Association and served on the local officer team. Jackie held several horse judging cards and judged numerous horse shows throughout the southeast.

Jackie had a love for reading, quarter horses, traveling, all kinds of animals, the Old West, Native American Culture, thoroughbred horse racing, students and watching them succeed, and her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Jacqueline Burch Mathews and her granddaughter, Madeline Blue Mathews, who both reside in Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Memorial visitation will be held at Akins Funeral Home in Blue Ridge, Georgia on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. In addition, another visitation will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hancock Funeral Home in Fort Meade, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Jacqueline Burch Memorial Fund at United Community Bank in Blue Ridge, GA. Monies collected will fund a college scholarship for a high school senior at Fort Meade High School Class of 2018. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
