FCHS Students Enter World of 7 Billion Video Contest

Several groups of students at Fannin County High School entered the annual World of 7 Billion Video Contest this year.  To see complete contest information check out this site.

The competition is open to high school and middle school students worldwide, and the deadline for entry was February 23, 2017.   The contest is divided into three categories: Climate Change, Ocean Health, and Rapid Urbanization.  Each category awards one 1st place prize of $1000, one 2nd place prize of $500, and two honorable mention prizes of $250 each.

In April, FCHS Seniors Ethan Taylor, Jeffery Whitmire, and Gavin Meeker were notified that they were in the top 10 finalists in the Climate Change category!  Out of 3,000 global submissions, they were in the top 30 videos!  The seniors next did an interview with the World of 7 Billion Organization, and they were informed that they were selected as an Honorable Mention Prize winner for the 2017 contest!

Audio Video Teacher, Bubba Gibbs: “It is a huge honor to have students produce a prize winning video in a global competition.  FCHS has been submitting videos for the World of 7 Billion Contest for three years, and I knew as soon as I saw their video that they had a chance at the prize money.  The quality of the video, the editing, the message, and the voice over were the best I have seen produced in the classroom.  These students did an excellent job, and I am really proud that they have been recognized for their work.”

Ethan Taylor, Senior FCHS: “This video was a very rewarding experience, allowing us to learn about protecting the environment and the audio video technology pathway.  Being able to place in the top 4 out of 3,000 entries is such an honor, and the $250 prize will certainly come in handy as we head off to college!”
