West Fannin’s STEM teacher, Kim Patterson, presented each of our classrooms with a box challenge. Each classroom received a 6”x 6”x 6”cardboard box. There were no restrictions and no rules except for each classroom to create something using their box. Kitty Ray from 3 Monkeys Antiques came to judge the boxes for us. She picked the most unique box and the box with the best purpose. We had a wide variety of creations from our classrooms and she was very impressed with their ability to turn a simple box into so many different things. These two classes won a pizza party.

Strobel boxes: Mrs. Strobel’s second grade class won for the most unique use of a box. They turned their box into a kite.

Dockery boxes: Mrs. Dockery’s kindergarten class created a “sneezy station” and won for the most purposeful.

As a part of STEM Day at West Fannin, Fannin County High School students, Cooper Earls and Hunter Alexander gave a presentation on STEM, engineering and TSA.  The high school students demonstrated robotics, the electric car, drones and examples of video programming.  They talked to students about the many opportunities ahead for them through STEM education.
