FHS Knowledge Bowl team takes 1st Place in State Competition

On March 22, members of the Future Georgia Educators traveled to Clarke Atlanta University for the FGE State Leadership Conference.  During the day, they heard an inspiring speech by 2016-17 Georgia Teacher of the Year, Casey Bethel, who encouraged them to pursue their dreams of becoming teachers.  Students also attended workshops led by college professors and were exposed to many teaching programs across the state by speaking with college recruiters from over 20 different colleges.

 

“These conferences are important because it allows students from our area the opportunity to meet others who also have a passion for teaching,” said Jill Dyer, FGE Advisor and Teaching Program Coordinator for Fannin County High School. “In addition, they get to hear from teachers, such as Mr. Bethel, who have excelled in their career and can pass along advice and words of encouragement.”

 

Three students also competed in the Knowledge Bowl competition which included topics such as educational laws, instructional practices, and ethics of educators.  Kaylin Contardi, Emily Garrison and Maddi Harris won first place in the competition, defeating schools from across the state.  In addition, Kaylin Contardi also won the gold medal for an essay she wrote about how poverty affects our public schools and what educators can do to help students who fall into that category.
