On March 7, 2017, the 2nd and 3rd grade students at West Fannin Elementary participated in a forensic exercise that highlighted their STEM program. Second graders were asked to solve clues to earn pieces of “Spud”, AKA Mr. Potato Head, and piece him back together following a horrible mishap. The clues included activities in math, science and engineering including robots. Third grade used STEMWORKS, a forensic website, to learn how to analyze handwriting samples and to observe differences in various crime scenes. Students and teachers alike had a wonderful time despite the weather.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is an approach to teaching which integrates all disciplines and helps the students learn to be life-long problem-solvers.
