School board members honored March 13-17
The Fannin County School System is joining in a statewide celebration this week to salute the efforts of local
school board members. The week of March 13-17, 2017, has been proclaimed School Board Appreciation Week in Georgia. The weeklong observance calls attention to the contributions of local boards of education.
“Board members here truly represent their neighbors as the voice for public schools, both in this community and with their fellow elected representatives,” said Mark Henson, Superintendent. “This year, in particular, they are facing tremendous challenges because of the economy and funding cutbacks which directly impact students, staff, and services. At the same time, they must think ahead and plan for future needs, such as buildings, instructional programs and personnel.
“Board decisions affect some 2929 students, 470 full time employees, 130 substitutes, and five schools.
Board chairman Bobby Bearden, a business man with 14 years of board experience, serves with the following members:
Lewis DeWeese, a business man with 24 years previous experience; Terry Bramlett, a business man who has 12 years of board experience; Chad Galloway, is serving his first year as a school board member; and Steve Stanley, business man with six years experience.
