Local Family Hosts Bone Marrow Drive at FCHS Football Game

 

Family partners with DKMS to hold drive in honor of former pre-school teacher who died from blood cancer

 WHAT:    Community members will swab their cheeks as part of a bone marrow donor drive organized by the family of Sandy Reel, a local woman and former pre-school teacher. Sandy unexpectedly passed away one week after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

The drive will be held at the Fannin County Rebels vs. Union County Panthers football game at Fannin County High School, where Sandy’s son Jeremy King is a teacher and athletic trainer.

Swabbing your cheek is all it takes to register as a potential donor. According to DKMS, the international nonprofit leading the fight against blood cancer, 70% of people suffering from blood-related illnesses must rely on donors outside their families to save their lives.
