WFES and Ryley Mervine Team Up to Learn About Nutrition and Wellness
Rebel's Corner October 14, 2016
Ryley Mervine, with help from first-graders at WFES, prepared for Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) regional and, hopefully, national competition. Mervine is a freshman in the Family and Consumer Sciences class at Fannin County High School. On October 3rd, Mervine met with WFES first-grade students to promote health, exercise and wellness among young children using various activities that appeal to five- and six-year olds. Mervine developed the project by combining her passion and interest for nutrition and how to bring this message to young children. She worked with WFES teacher to develop activities along STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) standard. This will help WFES in its goal to become STEM certified. When designing the activity centers, Mervine kept in consideration the STEM standards and worked to incorporate technology and problem solving into several of the centers.
Mervine will continue working on this project throughout the semester to prepare for her region (FCCLA) STAR Events competition in February.
