Turnovers Prove Costly For Rebels

On Friday Night the Rebels took the field to make a statement. On North Hall’s first offensive drive Fannin allowed a single first down and then didn’t budge. When the Rebels took over, they moved the ball very well. Plenty of quick underneath passes and some great running. Eventually the drive stalled at the 20, which lead to a 36 yard field goal by Brandon Carranza. The Trojans offense was able to drive the field and score a touchdown with a minute left in the first.

On the next possession the Rebels would then go on a 80 yard drive that resulted in a one yard touchdown run by QB, Brad Davis. On the point after, the Trojans showed the speed they have and blocked the kick. The blocked PAT was almost an omen for the rest of the game. During the first half it was score for score as North Hall would again score a touchdown on the next drive. With four minutes left in the half it looked like Fannin was poised to take control of the game. The Rebels were backed up and as Davis threw his pass a North Hall defender jumped the route intercepting the ball. The Trojans would then score another touchdown with a minute left in the half. The score at halftime being 21-9.

During the 3rd quarter Fannin would start moving the ball once again. Senior TE, Jacob Reese, brought in a pass and proceeded to run over four North Hall defenders before being brought down and a terrible call by the referees ruling a fumble when Reese was actually down. The defense would again stand tall not allowing the Trojans to move the ball. The Rebels would start to drive once again. This time stalling around the 40 of North Hall. A QB Punt, by Davis pinned the ball inside the 5. The Trojans were able to get out of the shadow of their own goalpost but not much farther than that. The Rebels would get the ball back late in the 3rd before having another fumble happen. The only scoring in the second half was a 20 yard touchdown run by North Hall with 4 minutes left in the game. The final score being 28-9, North Hall.

When speaking to the team Coach Pavao said, “There is no need to worry, we are 0-1 in the region, not 0-5. Half of the teams in the region will have a loss on their region record after tonight. We can still be a good football team, we just have to cut down on the mistakes.”

Next week the Rebels head to Greater Atlanta Christian and Coach Pavao had some words of encouragement for his team. ” You can be scared about that team or you can take it as a challenge. I have beaten top ranked teams before, and I believe that we can beat top ranked teams.”

Union County was the region opponent that GAC played last night. Greater Atlanta Christian won by a score of 35-12. So next Friday night, pack into a car with some friends and head down to Gwinnett County and cheer on the Rebels as they       take on GAC, kickoff is at 7:30!
